Map reveals CHEAPEST cities to buy second hand cars – how far do you need to travel to get the best deals?
A MAP has revealed the cheapest places in the UK to buy second-hand cars.
One of the little-known quirks of car buying is that its price can remarkably vary depending on where you buy it – with Hull said to be the most affordable place to buy a used motor.
Hull is, on average, the cheapest major city in the UK to buy a used car[/caption] Drivers can save £1,000s on their motor compared to other cities, including London[/caption]According to CarGurus, the national average price of a second-hand car in Britain, dated from 2018 to 2022, is £23,516.
However, they also found that Hull is the most affordable major city to buy a motor that’s between a year and five years old – with average vehicle listing prices at a decent £18,480.
That’s a striking £5,036, or 27.3% less, than the national average.
Second-hand cars for sale in Liverpool were the second-best value, offering £3,262 in savings on average, while Glasgow is third at £2,390.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, London is the most expensive major city in Britain to buy a used car – with prices actually exceeding the national average by £9,694.
Southampton is the second-most expensive major city for used car buyers, where motors can be found for £1,645 above the UK average, while third is Birmingham, at £1,557.
Chris Knapman, Editorial Director at CarGurus, said: “While there are many factors that determine the price of a used vehicle, a car’s location is often overlooked, yet it can have a significant impact.
“Our data shows the average cost of a used car can vary by thousands of pounds depending on where they are located. To help buyers find the best deals, we have compiled an analysis showing how average car pricing varies by region.
“When searching for a used car on CarGurus.co.uk, listings can be sorted by distance from a user’s postcode. For those buyers willing and able to travel to secure a good deal, it can certainly be worth the extra time and effort to do so.”
