My wife is intent on draining me dry after finding out I joined a dating app
DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE my wife found out I joined a dating app, she’s been intent on fleecing me for everything I have.
I’ve tried everything to fix it, but there’s no getting through to her. Now I can’t help but think she’s taking advantage of the situation.
I’m 32, my wife is 30, and we tied the knot three years ago after five years together.
The buildup to the wedding had been so exciting, so when everything settled and my wife became consumed with work, I started to feel lonely.
I knew that she was busy, but every time I tried to confide in her, she shrugged me off.
In a moment of complete weakness, I decided to download a dating app. Looking back, I know it was wrong, but I was desperate for company.
My wife caught me pretty soon after when she saw a notification pop up on my phone. I tried my best to grovel and apologise, but she kicked me out of our house and hasn’t spoken to me since.
Now she’s gradually draining our joint bank account. Whether it’s withdrawals of £50 or £500, it’s clear she’s trying to fleece me.
I’ve tried to talk, but she refuses to communicate.
I can’t wrap my head around how she could do this to me.

DEIDRE SAYS: You made a mistake, but the most important thing is that you’re aware and have tried to make things right.
While your wife has every right to be upset, she’s taking it to the extreme. No matter what you did, there’s no excuse for theft.
If she is refusing to communicate, it would be best if you withdrew half of what’s left and get some urgent financial advice contact Men’s Advice Line (mensadviceline.org.uk) who can advise you.
It takes two to make a relationship; you can’t do it on your own. I’m sending you my support pack, Mending A Broken Heart, to help you move on.
