New York Pregnancy Center Opens Another Office Despite Kathy Hochul Threatening Pro-Life Groups
Abortion is now a constitutional right in New York. At a recent press conference, New York Gov. Hochul and Attorney General James celebrated the victory, promising renewed attacks on pro-life Christians with a task force called the Empire State Freedom Initiative. According to Gov. Hochul, the goal is “to identify any possible threats to these rights.”
CompassCare, a New York-based network of pro-life medical offices, has been the target of political, legislative, legal, and domestic terror attacks since the illegal leak of the Dobbs case overturning Roe over two years ago. Last week, CompassCare CEO, Rev. Jim Harden promised, “CompassCare has no intention of slowing down our efforts to provide an ethical alternative for women who think abortion is their only choice.”

Now under threat of additional attacks, on November 11, 2024, CompassCare made good on this promise, opening one of two medical offices to launch in as many weeks. Brooklyn and The Bronx are strategic locations because they represent the counties with the highest number of abortions in the Nation. CompassCare is the only pro-life medical center in both Boroughs.
On November 6, one day after NY Proposal One was passed, enshrining abortion as a constitutional right, NY Gov. Kathy Hochul and AG Letitia James launched the “New Empire State Freedom Initiative,” a task force designed to enforce the legal ramifications of Proposal One. Many are concerned that the passage of Proposal One exposes pro-life pregnancy centers to civil and criminal litigation for conspiracy against rights simply for refusing to refer or provide abortion—carrying fines and jail time.
Rev. Harden says, “Women deserve better than abortion. That’s why, even under the shadow of unjust laws, CompassCare is opening pro-life medical offices in the heart of the nation’s abortion headquarters, The Bronx and Brooklyn.”
A recent study reveals that, in 2022, pro-life organizations like CompassCare gave away over $360 million in maternity goods and medical services. With over 16 million client interactions carrying a 97.4% satisfaction rate, the data is clear: women love pro-life medical centers and want to receive care from them.
Rev. Harden asks, “Who will provide this third-of-a-billion dollars to women and babies without pro-life pregnancy centers? Pro-abortion politicians like Kathy Hochul and Letitia James are trying to shut us down not because they care about women—or even because they care about abortion. They need to protect the unpopular, deregulated, tax-payer-funded abortion complex to ensure their reelection campaigns are always well-funded.”
