Kilmeade surprised Gaetz in 'starting lineup' instead of 'clown car'
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade on Thursday expressed surprise at President-elect Trump's nomination of now-former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) to serve as attorney general.
“The other thing is, I always thought when Susie Wiles took the job [of chief of staff], you heard, she says, 'The one thing I would say is I don’t want to see any of the clown car,'" Kilmeade said on "Fox and Friends" Thursday morning. "I always thought Matt Gaetz was in the clown car, so I’m surprised he’d be part of the starting lineup."
Kilmeade's comments were first highlighted by Mediate.
Trump's selection of Gaetz, a firebrand lawmaker who has faced ethics and criminal investigations over his personal conduct, sent shockwaves across Washington, D.C., on Wednesday and raised questions about his ability to survive Senate confirmation.
Kilmeade, earlier in Thursday's broadcast, mentioned the conservative coup Gaetz led against former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
"He was solely responsible for blowing up the House last year,” Kilmeade said.
Kilmeade is a vocal supporter of Trump and one of the top hosts on Fox, a network from which the former president has now poached a number of current or former personalities to serve in his administration.
