Top 5 Moments of Episode 9:
1. Return to Camp: At any point of this game, there has been an uneasy sense of power in the hands of one group over the other, but in the case of Sam Phalen, losing his partner in crime, Sierra Wright, and having to reassess his entire gameplay might be a blessing in disguise. He did opt to act like a sad puppy, which was downright comical. Andy Rueda was especially proud of this elimination, bragging to camera, yet seemingly mended fences with Sam. Andy went from underdog to powerhouse rather quickly, which could be an editing hint for fans. The apologies for Sam tour was nice, but he also now had a vendetta against the former Lavo members, which actually made sense. Yet, his major concern seemed to be Gabe Ortis.
2. Duos Face Off: Forced to pair off for the next challenge, the teams were intriguing. Sam immediately going for Andy was not much of a surprise, but one would think that he would have lobbied for Kyle Ostwald. Kyle’s explanation to Jeff on how he and Gabe became a pair sounded like a perfect setup for a Hallmark movie. The challenge looked like a nightmare, but with immunity up for grabs, it should be difficult. Saying that, sending the first two pairs out on a journey with no vote in hopes to regain it was downright devious. Those unfortunate recipients would be Rachel LaMont, Sam, Caroline Vidmar, and Andy. The recipient of immunity at this perilous point of the game would end up being Gabe, placing Kyle at risk for the first time in a while.
3. Scheming up a Blindside: At the picnic, Kyle was visibly nervous that he would be a target and Sam’s name came up. Meanwhile, Sue Smey and Genevieve Mushaluk were in the shelter talking about blindsiding Solomon “Sol” Yi. Those on the beach were reunited and the scheming commenced as the Sol plan began to gain momentum. Out on the journey, the quest to regain the right to vote at Tribal Council depended on a stacking game, one in which everyone gained their vote back but Caroline.
4. A Tough Choice: Caroline was adamant about Kyle being voted out, but the whole group being reunited ended with a larger target on Sol, with Rachel being key to his ousting. Sam learned about the plan and told Sol, which made him the most enjoyable agent of chaos this season as Sam targeted Sue. Subsequently, the target fell on Kyle as scrambling began with little time left before sunset. This all felt very “Survivor” meets “Game of Thrones,” which I loved.
5. Juror #2: Sierra watched the confusion over who would join her on the jury. The chaos was not on par to that of past seasons, but if it was any indication…we are going to see fireworks for the rest of the season. In the end, Sol became the second member of the jury, which could be a major selling point for Genevieve if she were to make the final vote. To their credit, he seemed impressed by the circumstances so he could be an open vote.
