Tropical Depression 19 forms in Caribbean, expected to become Sara
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - Storm Team 10 and the National Hurricane Center are monitoring Tropical Depression 19, which has formed in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to become Tropical Storm Sara in the next 24 hours.
Global models have backed off a stronger system developing, as the future Sara will be interacting with a lot of land over Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula. Tropical models are showing this as well.
It is unknown at this time if there will be a threat to the Gulf or what impacts this disturbance could bring to the United States. It's extremely rare for a system to reach as far west as Louisiana this time of the year.
A strong upper level trough should send anything that reaches the Gulf well east of Louisiana. The higher threat for impacts would be across Florida. The next name on the list is Sara.
