11/14/2024: Trending a Bit Warmer into this Weekend
The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:
A chilly Thursday lies ahead for us across the News10 viewing area, but temperatures will climb back into the 50s for the weekend and into next week. Dry conditions also look to prevail. With an increasing wind heading into the weekend, the fire threat remains high.
Thursday will have a very similar feel compared to today, but not the same look as more clouds will filter into our skies gradually from the west. Even though there are some rain showers approaching from the west, the strong ridge of high pressure overhead will cause a large chunk of the rain to fizzle out, and the rest of it to dive down towards our south. Temperatures will top out in the low to mid 40s in most areas despite the chilly start.
With more cloud cover overnight, temperatures should stay in the 20s overnight for most areas. Still expected temps to bottom out a few degrees below normal.
The upward trend in temperatures will be noticeable Friday as temperatures have a better chance to reach 50 degrees for a few hours in most areas under a mix of sun and clouds. During the afternoon, a light but steady breeze is expected. That, coupled with low levels of relative humidity and dry weather will contribute to a higher fire threat.
Temperatures continue to climb Saturday and Sunday, with mid 50s on tap for Sunday - the pick of the weekend. Not to say Saturday is all that shabby, but it will feel a bit cooler than those forecast high temperatures due to windy conditions. The winds will also especially enhance the fire danger for the first half of the weekend, so we express extreme caution with anything flammable Saturday. New York State continues with a burn ban through the end of November. The winds will relax for Sunday.
A few hit-or-miss rain showers are possible on Monday, but we aren't enthusiastic about these chances being widespread of meaningful at this time. It will continue to be seasonably mild with high temperatures in the 50s and dry conditions Tuesday and Wednesday.
