NLEX beefs up staff, adds PBA champion coach Siot Tanquingcen as assistant
MANILA, Philippines – Siot Tanquingcen and Jong Uichico are renewing a successful coaching partnership that bore multiple PBA titles.
Tanquingcen will join NLEX as an assistant to Uichico, the Road Warriors announced on Thursday, November 14, as they beefed up their coaching staff ahead of the Commissioner’s Cup.
With Uichico as the head coach and Tanquingcen as his deputy, the two won four championships together in the past: three with San Miguel and one with Barangay Ginebra.
“The NLEX Road Warriors are ready for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with this legendary duo reunited on the sidelines,” the team wrote on its social media accounts.
As a head coach, Tanquingcen captured three titles, steering the Gin Kings to the 2004 Fiesta Conference and 2004-2005 Philippine Cup crowns and the Beermen to the 2009 Fiesta Conference trophy.
Tanquingcen won Coach of the Year in the 2004-2005 season.
Now 52 years old, Tanquingcen also serves as an assistant coach for the NU Bulldogs in the UAAP.
The Road Warriors hope the addition of Tanquingcen would provide a positive effect to the team as they eye a deep run next conference, with their last semifinal appearance coming in the 2021 Governors’ Cup.
NLEX got booted out of the quarterfinals by eventual champion TNT in the recently concluded Governors’ Cup, which marked Uichico’s first conference with the team. – Rappler.com
