King of Denmark praises Cyprus as ‘pillar of peace’
King Frederik X of Denmark made a special reference to the positive role played by Cyprus as a pillar of peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region, according to the foreign ministry.
A statement released on Wednesday said King Frederik accepted the credentials of the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of Denmark Panayiotis Kyriakou, during an official ceremony held at Amalienborg Palace on November 6.
During the private audience that followed, Ambassador Kyriakou conveyed to King Frederik the warm greetings of President Nikos Christodoulides.
He referred to the “excellent level” of bilateral relations between Cyprus and Denmark and underlined his commitment to work towards further strengthening the ties between the two countries.
The ambassador briefed King Frederik on the latest developments on the Cyprus problem and the Christodoulides’ efforts to resume negotiations.
In this context, he expressed government’s gratitude over the service of Danish soldiers in the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Ambassador Kyriakou also referred to Cyprus’ stabilising role in the region, with special reference to the Amalthea plan for the delivering of humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
According to the foreign ministry, King Frederik reciprocated his warm greetings to Christodoulides and referred to Cyprus’ positive role as a pillar of peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Finally, he also expressed his satisfaction for the excellent bilateral relations between Cyprus and Denmark, and his wish for their continuous strengthening.
