Sports briefs: Branson, Marin Catholic bow out in NorCals
The girls volleyball teams from The Branson School and Marin Catholic both bowed out in the quarterfinals of the NorCal Open Division playoffs on Wednesday night.
The top-seeded Bulls (22-5) saw their season come to a close following a 22-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21 loss to No. 8 Rocklin at Terra Linda High. Branson graduates three key seniors in outside hitter Elena Fisher, libero Lauren Dignan, and setter Celia Tolmie. Fisher is set to join former Branson teammate Logan Tusher on the Stanford beach volleyball team next year while Dignan is headed to play college volleyball for Northwestern.
Marin Catholic (25-8) lost a tight second set against No. 5 Archbishop Mitty (27-6), eventually falling 18-25, 25-27, 13-25.
Redwood, the No. 6 seed in D-I, is the last Marin team standing in the girls volleyball playoffs and travels to face No. 3 Clovis on Thursday. A victory would see the Giants hosting a regional semifinal on Saturday against either No. 10 Campolindo or No. 15 Los Gatos.
