Nike Has Big Plans for Its 2025 Air Max Day Sneaker
Update: Nov. 13, 2024 at 3:15 p.m. ET:
Nike’s Air Max Day 2025 celebration is still months away, but that hasn’t stopped the brand’s plans from hitting the internet ahead of time. After a first look appeared on the feet of Corteiz’s Javel Berlin in October, more colorways of the Nike Air Max Dn8 have now surfaced.
Currently expected to arrive in early March to kick off the Air Max Day (or more appropriately, month) releases, the Air Max Dn is the brand’s latest attempt at making a new lifestyle Air Max sneaker take off.
It’s the next evolution of the Air Max Dn, which was introduced in March 2024. By using four tube-shaped Air units, the Air Max Dn was designed to shift air underneath the wearer’s foot, and it’s been doubled to eight units for the upcoming Air Max Dn8.
While the exact tech specs are still unannounced, much can be deduced from the new product photos. The shoe will use a mesh-based upper supported by synthetic caging with a large TPU clip at the heel. Its toe box is reinforced for durability while the outsole appears to utilize Nike’s recycled rubber material. Branding includes an Air Max Plus-inspired logo reminiscent of the ’24 Air Max Dn on the heel and insole with a new-look “Air Max” logo on the tongue.
Nike reportedly plans to issue numerous Air Max Dn8 colorways throughout ’25 including the “Light British Tan” and “University Red/Bright Crimson” styles pictured here. Much like the Air Max Dn, which debuted via a collaboration with Supreme, it’s likely that the brand will seek out a collaborator to create energy around the new design.
The Nike Air Max Dn8 is currently expected to debut on March 6 at a retail price of $190. Readers can expect several pairs to arrive throughout the month of March and beyond.
What We Originally Reported on Oct. 31, 2024
In March 2024, Nike celebrated its annual Air Max Day holiday with the introduction of the Air Max Dn, a new sneaker which took inspiration from past models and added modern flair. For 2025, it looks like the brand will be issuing a sequel of sorts with even more Dynamic Air cushioning.
A first look at the shoe, believed to be called the Air Max Dn8, was spotted on the Instagram story of Javel Berlin, lead of marketing at UK streetwear brand Corteiz. Berlin’s shot shows that the shoe doubles the Dynamic Air cushioning of the original DN, adding four more units to the forefoot in addition to the existing four in the heel. The sneaker’s upper has also been tweaked with an even more technical design than its predecessor. The white-based colorway shared by Berlin featured green Dynamic Air units.
With the Air Max Dn, Nike introduced what it calls Dynamic Air, a cushioning setup made up of tube-shaped cushioning units which are designed to shift air between one another as pressure is applied.
The brand described the technology in a press release: “As you walk, the tubed-air unit will respond to the load your body puts on them with each step. The Air unit interacts with your foot in real time and moves with you. It’s an unreal new underfoot sensation, representing a significant evolution of Air Max’s signature bounce. You’ll have a smooth stride and a bounce to your step to keep you moving throughout your day.”
While the Air Max Dn was restrained with its foam forefoot, the Air Max Dn8 will dial it up with a nearly full Dynamic Air setup. Further specs on the model aren’t yet known, but if the Air Max Dn is any indication, fans can expect to see plenty of the Air Max Dn8 in ’25.
The new model is currently expected to launch on March 26 for Air Max Day 2025, but a release date has not been officially confirmed.
