Speaking to Variety, Ryan admitted that he wasn’t sure what the future would hold for his iconic antihero.
“Deadpool to me is a supporting character,” he explained.
Ryan continued, saying, He works great as a support. He should be a supporting character. Centering him, the only you can do that is to take everything away from him. So you have to sort of rip everything he holds dear away from him. Now it makes him the underdog. It facilitates the ability for him to be the Merc with the Mouth and do all that kind of stuff. But you can’t do another movie where I take everything away from him.”
While he didn’t see a future for a standalone movie, Ryan had thoughts about working with other heroes again: “But I could maybe do an ensemble. I could do a movie that’s a four or five-hander. I have an idea for one that I really love, and I’m a little obsessed with, which I think is a good sign when you’re obsessed with something.”
The actor recently teased another star’s future in the MCU.
