Injured hawk rescued by Austin firefighters, now recovering
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A hawk is soaring toward recovery after she was caught in a kite string snagged in a tree along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail Tuesday.
A KXAN viewer reached out after witnessing the Austin Fire Department rescue the injured hawk. Austin Wildlife Rescue officials confirmed to KXAN the hawk is currently in their care, and that it doesn't appear to have any major injuries.
"The wing is a little tender from where the string was, but X-rays were clear," AWR's executive director Jules Maron told KXAN in an email. "We have her under observation for a couple days, much to the hawk’s dismay :)."
Once successfully flight tested, the hawk will be released back into the wild.
