Wednesday morning floods in Lafayette prevent motorists from getting to work
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Wednesday's morning storm brought heavy flooding in many parts of Lafayette especially down Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
"Every morning, I come down here, I have never seen anything like this," said 18-year-old Kaden Deville, who was unable to get to work because of the flooded road.
Other motorists said the road was blocked off or their car stalled out after trying to make it through the high water.
Kathy Handy was driving to work but her car got stuck in the water.
"I stalled out. I was trying to follow behind a truck. That turned off and the cars were coming by and the water just kind of rushed in. My challenger just stopped. Then I couldn't move," she said.
The flooding lasted all morning. Lafayette police issued a statement saying Ambassador Caffery was impassable from Kaliste Saloom to Eraste Landry.
Handy said there are similarities between this weather event and the 2016 flooding. She said even though this wasn't as long, this experience was worse.
"This is more. I'm not sure what the problem is, if it's the drainage system. But we definitely need some work," Hamdy said.
The flooding receded quickly once the rain stopped. The road was re-opened right at noon.
