'Heads are exploding': CNN analyst says Senate GOP is horrified by Matt Gaetz as AG
Federal prosecutors and other career lawyers at the Justice Department have their hair on fire about Donald Trump nominating scandal-plagued MAGA Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for attorney general, CNN's Jamie Gangel told anchor Jake Tapper on Wednesday — but more than that, she said, Senate Republicans are revolted by the idea.
In the event they do confirm him, she added, the results could be terrifying.
"Now senators will have to decide assuming there is a confirmation hearing what they think about the Matt Gaetz confirmation hearing, as well as Tulsi Gabbard for DNI, Pete Hegseth for secretary of defense," said Tapper, of Trump's most controversial picks. He added of the secretary of state nomination, "I think Marco Rubio, they'll probably just wave him in at this point."

Regarding Gaetz, Gangel chimed in, "So Lindsey Graham said, I'll have to think about that. Translation: heads are exploding in the Senate among Republicans. They do not want this. I mean, [GOP Leader] John Thune is going to stop answering his phone."
Additionally, she added, "Heads are also exploding at the Justice Department, because this goes against the kind of candidate, Republican or Democrat, that the DOJ sees as an appropriate candidate. I think it also speaks to two things. This is Donald Trump on steroids. It's not just that he has the House and the Senate and a mandate. He feels—"
"And immunity from the U.S. Supreme Court, at least partial," cut in Tapper.
"He feels he can do this," agreed Gangel. "And when we say that Matt Gaetz is loyal to Donald Trump, the translation here is, in the position that we have said, the most sensitive Cabinet position, he has put a yes man in there. There are going to be no guardrails if the Senate Republicans confirm him."
