U23 Squad set for European Championships in Poland
Six athletes from GB’s U23 Judo team are set to compete in the European Judo Championships, held in Poland from November 15th to 17th.
Lewis Fryer will compete in the -66kg category. Fryer has shown strong form this season, securing medals at the Skopje and Birmingham Junior European Cups. After missing out on the podium at the World Championships, he’s eager for a comeback in Poland.
Benjamin Levy brings experience to the -73kg category, with three bronze medals to his name this year. Levy aims to reclaim a podium position after recent misses in his European appearances.
Irakli Goginashvili, British Judo’s Male Junior Athlete of the Year, will join Levy in the -73kg division. Goginashvili has enjoyed a stellar season, medalling at the Skopje, Paks, Birmingham, and Kaunas Junior European Cups.
Rory Tyrell steps into the -81kg category, where he has been testing himself at the senior level this year. His dedication during this transition was rewarded with a bronze medal at the Portimao Senior European Cup in October, indicating his growing strength in the division.
Summer Shaw, British Judo’s Female Junior Athlete of the Year, will compete in the -48kg category. Shaw’s remarkable season includes gold medals in Berlin and Prague, silver in Birmingham and Kaunas, and bronze in Podgorica. She also achieved a 7th-place finish at the Junior World Championships, demonstrating her consistency and talent.
Tatum Keen enters the -52kg category following a silver medal at the Prague Senior European Cup. Earlier in the year, Keen added silver in Riga and bronze in Tunis to her achievements.
Unfortunately, Luke Davies has had to withdraw from the championships due to injury. We wish him a swift and full recovery!
