'Breath of fresh air': Man Utd star excited to play under Amorim after Van Nistelrooy ignored him
Manchester United have had a frustrating Premier League campaign and they have already dropped points in seven of their opening 11 games.
Despite this, they remain only four points adrift of the Champions League places and have the chance to turnaround their fortunes with a winning run.
The Red Devils will be managed by new boss Ruben Amorim after the international break and Christian Eriksen appears thrilled by the Portuguese’s arrival.
Speaking to Tipsbladet, Eriksen said he is looking forward to returning to Old Trafford and he is hopeful Amorim creates a breath of fresh air at United.
He said: “I am looking forward to coming back. Of course, I’ve seen his results recently and I’ve seen how much Sporting has suddenly come into the media and won a lot of games – including against Manchester City. I hope he comes in and creates a breath of fresh air, and then we have to see how it goes.”
Eriksen has had a good start to the season with the Red Devils. He has registered four goals and three assists from 13 appearances in all competitions.
The Dane has been particularly impressive in the Europa League. He made four goal contributions in the draws against Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce.
The midfielder was a regular starter under former manager Erik ten Hag, but made just two substitute appearances under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Eriksen was sidelined with a minor injury. On his return, he was limited to cameos from the bench as Van Nistelrooy preferred Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro in midfield.
With the change of head coach, the 32-year-old will be hoping to be reinstated into the starting XI.
It won’t be an easy task for the Dane as Amorim’s playing style is more intense. Eriksen is most likely to head for the exit door when his contract expires next summer.
