'Horrible day!' MAGA fans feel 'backstabbed' by 'anti-Trump' Senate majority leader choice
Senate Republicans chose a new majority leader to replace Mitch McConnell, and Donald Trump's MAGA fans are furious.
Sen. John Thune (R-SD) won a closed-door vote Wednesday in a three-way election against Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), the MAGA favorite, to succeed the venerable Kentucky Republican who served as GOP leader for nearly two decades.
McConnell announced earlier this year he would step aside after the election, and while he did not endorse a successor Thune had long been seen the favorite to replace him, but Trump's allies made a push for Scott – and MAGA fans were angry at the outcome.
"Thune has notoriously been anti Trump," said MAGA gadfly Laura Loomer.
"Trump won a historic landslide and a national mandate so naturally our Republican Senate elects one of the biggest Trump haters on planet earth as Majority leader," added influential right-wing account Catturd. "These skunks hate you."
"Senator Thune elected Senate Majority Leader in secret vote," said the Libs of TikTok account. "The only reason they would do it in secret is if they have something to hide. We should have transparency from the people we elected to represent us."
"Horrible day for MAGA!" yelped Fox News contributor Leo Terrell. "This man hate President Trump! I want the list of RINOS who voted against Senator Scott!"
"Backstabbed by the US Senate again," grumbled MAGA influencer Wendy Patterson.
"It’s just despicable that we got these 3 trash nominees," said David Ackley, chairman of the Montour County, Pennsylvania, Republican Party. "After the mandate we sent on the 5th, screw you McConnell!"
"Our Senators are all compromised," added the right-wing influencers Hodge Twins.
"Senators thought we were bullying them before," seethed MAGA influencer Gunther Eagleman. "Just wait until they see what we have in store for them."
"The Senate just voted down Rick Scott for Leader," said podcaster Joey Mannarino. "We really only have Trump representing us."
