Trump picks Matt Gaetz as attorney general
President-elect Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he would nominate Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as the next attorney general of the United States.
Trump confirmed the selection in a statement posted to his Truth Social platform.
"It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States," Trump said.
The president-elect called Gaetz "a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney."
"Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System. Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans' badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department," Trump wrote.

The House Ethics Committee has also an ongoing investigation into Gaetz related to sexual misconduct.
