Nexstar Media Group hires Bill Sammon as EVP of The Hill, NewsNation
Bill Sammon has been named senior vice president of editorial content for The Hill and NewsNation, Nexstar Media Group announced Wednesday.
Sammon, a former Fox News executive, will begin his duties on Nov. 18.
“We are excited to have Bill on board,” said Cherie Grzech, president of news and politics for NewsNation. “Bill’s impeccable credentials as a journalist are renowned, and he is the perfect leader to oversee the combined newsgathering operations of The Hill and NewsNation in Washington, D.C. Bill will be a tremendous addition to our team.”
Sammon worked at Fox for more than a decade, serving as managing editor and senior vice president of news. He oversaw presidential debates and the network’s decision desk, where he projected winners and losers in national elections.
In its press release announcing Sammon’s hire, Nexstar touted Sammon as the first to declare President Biden the winner in Arizona during the 2020 election, a key state that paved the way for Biden’s eventual election and a decision that at the time angered former President Trump.
Sammon left the network the following January, as did political editor Chris Stirewalt, who now hosts a Sunday public affairs program on NewsNation.
“I’m grateful for the chance to work with Nexstar’s incredible team of outstanding journalists. Last week they accurately informed the world who would win the presidency, and this week did the same with the House of Representatives—before any other news outlet—demonstrating yet again, Nexstar's unwavering commitment to accurate, quality journalism,” Samon said in the release.
The Hill and NewsNation partnered with Decision Desk HQ over this year’s elections. DDHQ was the first to project Trump as the winner of the presidential race, and was also the first to project the GOP would maintain its House majority.
Nexstar launched NewsNation in 2021 and has been steadily adding to its roster of hosts and political programming since. The company acquired The Hill in August of the same year.
