20-year-old dies 1 day after shooting in east Austin; police searching for multiple suspects

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it was investigating a homicide that occurred last week in east Austin.
APD said officers responded to a call and found a man, later identified as 20-year-old Matthew Escalante, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but died Nov. 8, according to police.
APD said an investigation showed Escalante arrived to meet someone, but was shot by a suspect who then left the area with additional suspects.
According to police, a shooting occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in the 2600 block of Rosewood Avenue.
This case is being investigated as Austin's 58th homicide of 2024.
Detectives asked anyone with information about any of the suspects to come forward. APD said to contact the department at 512-974-TIPS.
