Wet, windy and wild weather Wednesday around Portland
PORTLAND. Ore. (KOIN) -- A KOIN 6 Weather Alert remains in place as wet and windy weather remains around western Oregon and Washington on Wednesday.
The Pacific Northwest's latest storm is packing a punch. Heavy and potentially flooding rains are likely for some urban areas throughout the day on Wednesday. Streams and rivers will start to flow high, along with the chance for urban street flooding, due to leaf-clogged storm drains.
Winds will remain breezy throughout Wednesday with gusts up to 25 to 30mph around the Willamette Valley. Coastal wind gusts should decrease into the afternoon. However, the central and southern Oregon coastline could still see wind gusts up to 60 mph through the late morning. There's also a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms along the coast. These storms could have damaging winds and heavy downpours.
Rain showers will likely last through the end of the day as temperatures warm into the mid to upper 50s around the greater Portland, Vancouver area. The mild temperatures come with the subtropical moisture that's increasing the wild weather on Wednesday.
Mountain snow elevations will remain around 5,000' as nearly a foot of snow is possible above 6,000.' Mountain pass travel will likely see little to no impacts as wet roads remain.
The wet weather trend is expected to last through the end of the day on Thursday. Slightly cooler and drier conditions will settle back into the region by the end of the week. The next round of rain doesn't come until Saturday night and lasts through the start of next week.
