Capital City works to empower small business owners
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The City of Topeka is calling on small business owners to attend a workshop to grow their skills later this month.
GO Topeka is working with city officials to host a Supplier Diversity Workshop, according to a news release from City of Topeka. This workshop will prepare small business owners with tools they might need to succeed, such as insight to work successfully with the government.
The workshop will offer business owners a way to learn steps to secure government contracts and learn from panels about "legal compliance, sound accounting practices, comprehensive insurance coverage, key elements for how to sustain and grow a business and much more", according to the City of Topeka.
“We recognize that running a business requires a holistic approach," said Leigha Boling, division director of procurement and grant management for the City of Topeka. “This workshop is a way that we can help connect small, minority and disadvantaged business owners with the right resources and contacts for success.”
This workshop is free to attend because of a grant received from the National League of Cities (NLC) as part of Topeka's participation in the City Inclusive Entrepreneurship (CIE) program. This is a condensed version of the Supplier Diversity Expo earlier this year.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided for attendees, according to the news release. Translation services will be available for Spanish speakers. If you are interested in attending the Supplier Diversity Workshop, you can register online. People who need translation services can use the registration form in Spanish on the City's website by clicking here.
