Dallas man charged for brother's death after standoff with SWAT team
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A Dallas man was arraigned on Tuesday and faces several charges in connection to the death of his brother, the Polk County District Attorney's Office announced.
Authorities said 51-year-old Alonzo Rowell was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and reckless endangering of another person. He was also denied bail during Tuesday's arraignment.
The incident occurred Nov. 9, when Rowell allegedly shot and killed his brother, 54-year-old Tony Miller, at his home, the district attorney's office said.
After the shooting, Rowell drove to his former workplace, the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, and was in a short standoff with the Salem Police SWAT unit before his arrest, officials said.
While authorities continue investigating the case, Rowell’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 19.
