Christian Gonzalez Draws Tremendous Praise From Notable Patriots Legend
BOSTON — The New England Patriots have an elite lineage of superstar cornerbacks in the 21st century from Ty Law to Darrelle Revis to Stephon Gilmore.
Christian Gonzalez appears to be next in line in that group and walked the walk to earn that halfway in his sophomore season. The second-year defensive back continues to lock up elite talent lined up across from him and blossomed as a weekly reason to watch the Patriots in a rebuilding year.
Law knows the responsibility that comes with the role of a shutdown corner in New England. From everything he’s seen, Gonzalez has what it takes for the Patriots.
“He’s up next,” Law told NESN.com Friday at the Pedro Martinez Foundation gala. “I think he has the most upside of anybody on the team. He has that type of talent. He’s getting close to playing at that Pro Bowl level. I think when you talk about the next great cornerback that’s playing for New England, if he can stay healthy, that’s Christian Gonzalez.”
Gonzalez tallied 42 tackles and an interception in 10 games this season for the Patriots. The Oregon product takes on his next test in Week 11 against the talented duo of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua for the Los Angeles Rams.
