Trump rally comedian apologizing 'to absolutely nobody'
The comedian who told a series of off-color jokes about Puerto Rico and Latinos at President-elect Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally says he is not sorry for the controversy his set caused.
“I love Puerto Ricans, they’re very smart people. They’re smart, they’re street smart, and they’re smart enough to know when they’re being used as political fodder,” Hinchcliffe said on a new episode of his "Kill Tony" podcast. “And right now that is happening. And ... I apologize to absolutely nobody."
A crowd watching the live-to-tape show could be heard exploding in laughter as the comic continued.
" ... not to the Puerto Ricans, not to the whites, not to the Blacks, not to the Palestinians, not to the Jews, and not to my own mother, who I made fun of during the set,” Hinchcliffe continued.
Hinchcliffe's routine, which came just days before the 2024 presidential election, set off a firestorm about Trump's rhetoric on the campaign trail and earned him blistering criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.
Hinchcliffe is an insult comic known for his brutal roasts of celebrities and his fellow performers. His jokes taking jabs at minority groups have sparked internet backlash before.
Experts and observers told The Hill late last month Hinchcliffe's headline-grabbing routine at MSG could ultimately benefit the stand-up artist's career.
"To the mainstream media and to everybody trying to slander me online, that's what I do," he said. "I go hard and that's never going to change."
