PlayStation says it won’t remove much-hated feature despite everyone’s complaints
PLAYSTATION recently made a change to its PC games that has been widely unpopular with players.
After some time spent as PS5 console exclusive, many of PlayStation’s games are eventually ported to PC.
This includes many of its major series, such as God of War and Horizon.
While PC gamers love being about to play PlayStation games on PC, there is a catch that PlayStation has added to its games.
If you want to play PlayStation games on PC, you need to have a PlayStation Network account even if you don’t own a PlayStation console, or if the game is entirely offline.
This has caused anger from PC gamers, especially as PSN is not available in almost 120 countries.
Helldivers 2 was the first game to require PSN, but the company walked the decision back after pushback from players who had already purchased it.
It was then announced that Ghost of Tsushima would also require PSN and preorders could be refunded.
Since then, games like God of War Ragnarök and Until Dawn have all required PSN accounts, but players now know this before purchasing.
We had already seen this becoming a pattern but now Sony has confirmed that the requirement will be the norm going forward.
During a recent PlayStation investors call, Sony president Hiroki Totoki said: “We have learned a lot.
“The way to face the issues regarding PC, PlayStation accounts that we have required, that tends to invite pushback.
“But for the live-service games, [it’s] to maintain order in-game so that everybody can enjoy it safely.
“We need to create an environment conducive to that, and to enjoying the game freely.
“We may not call it a rule, but we ask the users and gamers to follow this restriction and the balance is very important.
“We have to continue to seek the best way to achieve this.”
The speech was interpreted live so it may contain some errors, but it appears that PlayStation intends to continue requiring PSN accounts for its PC games going forward.

With PSN being unavailable in certain regions, it is clear why this arrangement is frustrating for players.
Sony may say that it’s for security reasons, but then why does it require PSN for offline games?
In my opinion, the PSN requirement is so that the company can collect data from players.
If this is the case it is even more frustrating, and we hope that PlayStation reconsiders in the future.
