Car modelled on NASA space ships with HUGE ‘jet engines’ looks straight out of kids’ TV show – can you guess which one?
A BIZARRE motor that was inspired by rocket designs from NASA even had two large jet-style ‘engines’ on each side.
The futuristic-styled concept car even boasted a Plexiglass bubble canopy and an intercom system that allowed passengers to communicate with people outside.
To many, the little-known Cadillac Cyclone might resemble the car from the kids’ TV show The Jetsons – although this 1950s concept wasn’t built to fly.
But it was certainly high-tech for the time, even featuring black cones at the front that contain the radar for its crash avoidance system – an early forebearer of today’s adaptive cruise control.
This worked by sending out warning lights to the driver if it detected an approaching object.
Sadly, the Cyclone wasn’t mass-produced and was merely a concept car used as a testbed for future car tech.
While the Cyclone didn’t use actual jet engines and was instead powered by a conventional internal combustion engine, it did feature Cadillac’s renowned V8 engine.
The Cyclone also featured a canopy top that could slide forward electronically for entry and exit, making it wildly different to other motors on the road at the time – or indeed, today.
Only one Cyclone was ever built, and it’s currently housed with the GM Heritage Collection.
This comes as a classic car which was abandoned and left to rot for 70 years has recently been revived, and now sits in a museum of its own.
A Warszawa M-20 went on show on November 1 after it was tracked down in Finland.
After decades of searching for the 1951 model, it was saved and now is on public display in a private museum in Otrebusy, central Poland.
With a serial number of 000001 this was the first motor to leave a car factory in Poland after World War II, making it a very unique model.
Elsewhere, an incredible James Bond-style Aston Martin DB5 is set to hit auction – featuring a host of spy gadgets.
The legendary motor, famous for its appearances in the long-running series, is reminiscent of the original DB5 driven by Sean Connery in the 1964 film Goldfinger.
Known as the Continuation Goldfinger Edition, this DB5 – hand-crafted in 2021 and one of only 25 models manufactured – hits the auction block on November 14 in Zug, Switzerland.
