GAS boilers will be banned from all new homes within three years under Government plans.
Strict laws will force all new-builds to be fitted with electric heat pumps or non-gas alternatives in a bid to cut emissions by 80 per cent.
It comes as part of the Government’s push to create a clean power grid by 2030.
However, fears have been raised that suppliers will not be able to provide enough heat pumps.
Steve Turner, of the Home Builders’ Federation, said: “At the minute, we’re only installing 35,000 a year.
“To go from there to 300,000 a year will need a significant scale-up.”
This comes after polling found Labour’s target voters overwhelmingly support scrapping expensive green policies such as boiler bans.
Pollsters Stonehaven found less than a third of those who left the party under Jeremy Corbyn, but switched back at the election, support cracking down on domestic flights.
And only 26 per cent support a ban on gas boilers in new-build homes.
