My neighbour built an unsightly wall to separate our gardens – it’s ‘one storm away from crushing a person to death’
A MAN has revealed that he came home from work, only to notice that his neighbour had built a huge boundary wall to separate their gardens.
The man confessed that his neighbour had mentioned that he was planning to build a wall, but he didn’t quite realise it would look so “unsightly”.
Not only this, but people have gone as far to say that the wall looks ‘dangerous’, ‘badly built’ and is ‘one storm away from crushing a person to death’.
The man took to social media to share a close-up look at the wall, which he claimed is seven feet high, leaving many open-mouthed.
Posting on Reddit to reveal all on the wall, he claimed the wall “was very quickly put up”.
Writing on the r/DIYUK thread, the anonymous man, who posts under the username @ChairmanChuck, titled his post ‘Advice on boundary wall neighbours built’.
He then explained: “Me and my partner recently purchased our first house. It is a semi detached property.
“Our neighbours mentioned they would be building a wall, separating our back gardens.
“Me and my partner verbally confirmed this would be okay.”
Alongside snaps of the huge wall, he added: “I came from work and was met with this.
“Am I being overly cautious or unreasonable when I say this doesn’t look very secure or sightly.”
Unsure about his neighbour’s DIY job, the man confessed: “I am also concerned they’ve done this without the council‘s approval.
“Any advice would be appreciated.”
Reddit users were left open-mouthed by the huge boundary wall and were keen to share their thoughts in the comments.
But social media users were totally divided – whilst some described it as ‘stupidly high’, others hailed it as ‘better than a fence’.

One person said: “Seriously, if they’ve not put a proper footing in, which they haven’t, a wall of that height in the block will be leaning and cracking in short order.
“It also looks turbo dog s**t. They’ve also been cheeky f*****s for taking the p**s and not keeping you well informed and deliberately doing it while you’re out.
“It’s also instantly devalued your property. It’s also stupidly high. High enough to need planning permission.”

Despite this, at the same time, not everyone was as negative about the boundary wall.
One user penned: “They did you a favour, most people want privacy in their garden. It’s structurally sound, has supporting pillars or whatever the correct name for them is.
“Paint it or do whatever you want to your side (in terms of decoration at least).”
A second advised: “I’d get it rendered to your taste. Better than a fence – it won’t rot.”
Meanwhile, someone else explained: “Many would kill to have neighbours repair or rebuild derelict fences that are their responsibility and you worry about being offered a fence that will outlast anything made of wood.
“You’ve got an empty canvas there, let your imagination go wild.”
