Recent rainfall turns roads in Logan County into a muddy mess
LOGAN COUNTY, Okla (KFOR) — With record rainfall, roads in Logan County have turned into a muddy mess.
As of Friday morning, nearly 40 roads throughout district 1, which is the lower southwestern part of the county, were either washed out or damaged.
"With holes that are going into the culverts and into the drainage area, the sides of the roads are washed out just due to the amount of water that had to drain down them," said Shawn Pierce, deputy director with the Logan County Emergency Management.
Logan County is now under a disaster declaration.
"Where we can go in and try to get some better equipment, better money from the state to come in and try to fix these roads," said Pierce.
In the meantime, Pierce encourages drivers to find alternative routes.
"Turn around, don't drown, that's 100 percent what we got going on right now because we don't know what's under that water, we don't know if the roads are there or not," said Pierce.
He says there has been some rescues, but mostly delivery drivers that are not used to the area.
These situations aren't a first for Logan County.
"I know a lot of these roads in the county are bad, they stay bad. It's just one of those things, road less traveled, gets the least amount of work," said Pierce.
There is no timeline for fixing the roads.
With winter on the way, rain, snow and ice could make this a continuous problem, Pierce reminds drivers to be patient.
