'The View' hosts battle over why Trump won
Sara Haines of ABC’s “The View” explained her thoughts on why voters sided with President-elect Trump in a heated discussion with her co-hosts Friday.
“It’s condescending, the way that the left speaks to its voters,” Haines argued, in a clip highlighted by Grabien.
She claimed the Democratic Party has a history of demeaning its voters.
“I don’t blame Joe Biden. I don’t blame Kamala Harris. Go back as far as you want,” she said. “I blame a messaging within the Democratic Party.”
Haines was then challenged by co-host Sunny Hostin, who questioned if she had a “problem” with Trump’s rhetoric. Earlier in the week, Hostin expressed disappointment with the election outcome, describing it as a “referendum of cultural resentment.”
“I obviously have a problem, anyone has a problem with Donald Trump,” Haines said. “The bigger question should be, why did they vote for him?"
"We need to be introspective. If we voted for Kamala Harris, we need to say 'what didn’t resonate with the voters?'
“You know what didn’t resonate with the voters when they were saying we don’t feel safe and the left focused on 'defund the police' and bail reform …
"When they were focused on renaming schools, there were people saying, ‘Hey, students are destroying colleges.' I paid for that. I sent them there. They can’t learn and everyone apologized for it and didn’t want to attend to it. They also denied the border was a crisis and kept saying, ‘No, no, no, it’s fine.’”
However, longtime host Joy Behar chimed in stating, “there was a border bill” referencing Biden’s attempt to push legislation requesting more resources for the border through Congress earlier this year.
Fellow host Alyssa Farah Griffin also claimed on Thursday’s show that Democrats lost because of the “border."
Haines argued the same on Friday and pushed back on claims that Trump won because of racist comments instead of people’s belief in his ability to improve the economy.
“Joy, my point is they [Democrats] screamed, and screamed, and screamed. They didn’t vote for him [Trump] because he’s a racist or misogynist. They voted because they needed help in their everyday lives,” she stated.
Cross talk and arguing ensued. Eventually, Haines hit her final point.
“Every racist and misogynist voted for Donald Trump. Not everyone that voted for Donald Trump was a racist and misogynist,” she said.
