Portland weekend events: Kumoricon, 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' in Concert and more
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — From ice-skating performances to pop-punk parties, there is an extensive list of festivities slated for this weekend.
Start planning by taking a look at these seven Portland events.
An Evening With David Sedaris
When: Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97205
Author and humorist David Sedaris will talk to audiences about his social critiques, some from his most recent essay collection “Happy-Go-Lucky.” A number of his books have made the New York Times best-seller list.
“Avatar: The Last Airbender” in Concert
When: Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Keller Auditorium, 222 SW Clay St, Portland, OR 97201
Nickelodeon’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” has been reimagined through orchestral performances of songs from the animated series’ soundtrack. According to event organizers, the show’s original composer Jeremy Zuckerman also composed and arranged the live songs.
Disney On Ice: Magic In the Stars
When: Multiple times from Friday, Nov. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 10
Where: Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 300 N Ramsay Way, Portland, OR 97227
Beloved Disney characters like Olaf, Princess Tiana and Moana will skate into Veterans Memorial Coliseum while singing songs from their respective movies.
Kumoricon
When: Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m., and Sunday, Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Where: Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97232
This three-day anime festival will feature cosplay contests, dance parties and appearances from voice actors. Full weekend passes for Kumoricon will cost $95 at the door.
Frybread Fest
When: Saturday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: Director Park, 815 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97205
Downtown Portland Clean & Safe and Portland’s Indigenous Marketplace place will host the inaugural Frybread Fest, complete with frybread from Javelina PDX. The event honors Native American Heritage Month with drumming, storytelling, products from local vendors and more.
Late Nights R&B: Portland
When: Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Where: District Nightclub, 220 SW Ankeny St, Portland, OR 97204
Late Nights R&B, a popular Seattle-based music event, is hitting the road. Four Portland DJs will play their sets at the 21+ District Lounge, a “chic lounge with a Roaring '20s vibe.”
Holocene Goes Pop-Punk
When: Sunday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
Where: Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison St, Portland, OR 97214
A cover band called Understatement of the Year will perform songs from famous pop-punk bands like Paramore, All Time Low and My Chemical Romance. Attendees are encouraged to bring out their black eyeliner and band tees.
