Journalist reveals one position Spurs are looking to strengthen in January
Contrary to the reports suggesting that one Tottenham man might leave the club in January in search of the regular game, journalist Graeme Bailey reveals that the player always knew what he was signing up for at Spurs.
Tottenham man has stepped in and impressed
Radu Dragusin has started four of Tottenham‘s last five matches across all competitions, and given the injuries Spurs are dealing with at the back, that run is set to continue.
The Romanian has given an excellent account of himself, appearing to have an extremely calm head and an ability to sense danger.
However, there have been suggestions over recent weeks, particularly from a number of Italian outlets, that the 22-year-old could head back to Serie A in January as he is frustrated by his lack of opportunities at Spurs (TuttoSport).
Dragusin knew what he was in for at Spurs
Journalist Graeme Bailey, who always has his finger on the pulse of the happenings in the world of footballing transfers, has now insisted that Dragusin does not really have cause to feel aggrieved.
He revealed that it was made clear to the Romanian when he signed that he would have to fight for his place, and the journalist further remarked that Ange Postecoglou wants to add a fourth centre-back to his squad in January.
Bailey told The Spurs News about Dragusin: “People are suggesting he’s frustrated, he was brought in as the third choice. From what I’m told, Tottenham always made that clear to him he had to fight for his place.
“They are looking at another centre-back as a fourth choice, most Premier League teams have four centre-backs in their squads, so that’s the role they saw him playing originally.
“So I don’t think they’ll be in a massive hurry, from what I’m hearing, they’re not in a hurry at all to let him go and if they did, they’d have to sign two centre-backs in January because they do want another. I think it’s highly unlikely they sell him in January.”
Should Tottenham prioritise a centre-back or a left-back?
Most observers will agree that Ben Davies is a much better fit for the centre-back role than the inverted left-back role in Postecoglou’s system.
It would therefore not be surprising if the Tottenham head coach decides to keep the Welshman as his fourth-choice centre-half, and signs a backup left-back instead.
If reports over the last few weeks are anything to go by, it would appear that Lecce’s left-back Patrick Dorgu is in the North London club’s sights (The Mirror).
