Journalist predicts Spurs will sign 23-year-old ‘no matter what’
Journalist Graeme Bailey believes that Tottenham Hotspur will sign one La Liga star for sure next summer even if it means loaning him out for next season.
Spurs have option to sign midfielder
As part of the agreement to sell Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis, Spurs secured a £25m option to sign Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso next summer (Telegraph).
The 23-year-old won several admires with his solid displays in the base of the Betis midfield last season, but strangely, he has not been an automatic starter for Manuel Pellegrini’s side so far this campaign.
It was reported recently by Estadio Deportivo that the likes of Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and a few other clubs are eyeing the USA international ahead of the January window.
Tottenham expected to activate Johnny Cardoso option
Graeme Bailey believes that Tottenham will activate the £25m option at the end of the season no matter what, even though the club maintain that they have not made a decision on the matter yet.
When asked about Cardoso, the journalist told The Spurs News: “I spoke to Spurs a few weeks ago, and their line is that it’s more than likely/distinctly possible. I think it’ll be one they assess as they go, I don’t think the decision has been made yet.
“They are looking constantly, it seems like a good deal they’ve got in place. My instinct is that they’ll do the deal no matter what. They’ll take him and even if he has to be loaned out, I think Spurs will take him because the deal is too good not to.”
Tottenham likely to sign a number six
After letting Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma are the only two recognised defensive midfielders in the squad at the moment.
While many believe that the number six role will be Archie Gray’s position in the long-term, it does not look like he is ready to be a regular starter there at this time.
There is also the possibility that Spurs might listen to offers for Bissouma next summer, which is why the Cardoso option would be tempting for Postecoglou‘s side.
