Washington Spirit Forward Makenna Morris Named to NWSL’s Best XI of the Month, presented by Amazon Prime
Morris’ first Best XI honor represents the Spirit’s eighth of 2024
Washington, D.C. (11/08/2024) – Washington Spirit forward Makenna Morris has been named to the NWSL’s Best XI of the Month, presented by Amazon Prime, for her phenomenal performances throughout October and November play, the league announced today.
Morris makes her debut on the league’s monthly Best XI in the same month she was named the NWSL Rookie of the Month. In four October/November matches, Morris tallied three goals and an assist. After scoring the league’s first rookie brace of the season on October 13, Morris produced two more game-winning goal contributions in the Spirit’s final two matches to help secure the club home-field advantage in the playoffs.
With five goals and two assists across just 534 minutes of playing time, Morris finished her first regular season tied for the league lead in goals by a rookie (alongside teammate Bethune and Louisville’s Emma Sears). The 13th overall pick in this year’s NWSL Draft, Morris was part of a stellar rookie class with the Washington Spirit in 2024. All six Spirit rookies scored a goal this season, a league record, combining for 15 total scores and 12 assists.
The NWSL Best XI of the Month, presented by Amazon Prime award is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.
