TPT Meets Kirklees MP, Paul Davies
Meeting with Paul Davies MP for Kirklees was an exhilarating experience. His enthusiasm for the outdoors was truly infectious, and it was inspiring to hear about his passion for getting things moving to achieve National Trail status for the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT).
Paul Davies MP expressed his strong support for the campaign, recognising the Trail’s potential to boost local tourism, promote sustainable transport, and provide recreational opportunities for the community. His commitment to leveraging his position to garner support from other MP colleagues was particularly encouraging. He emphasized the Trail’s value in promoting health and well-being.
It was also heartening to hear how the Trail could benefit his personal campaign to combat loneliness and isolation in his constituency. The TPT offers a unique opportunity for people to connect with nature and each other, providing a space for physical and mental health recovery. It’s a wonderful place to be able to have the confidence to just say ‘hello’ to a passing stranger who share’s your enthusiasm for the outdoors and connecting with nature. Such a simple gesture can lead to new friendships being formed or encourage you to join one of the local community groups using the Trail. Paul Davies MP’s vision aligns perfectly with the Trail’s mission to be a nationally recognised accessible route for walking, cycling, horse riding, and wheeling.
The meeting was a significant step towards enhancing the TPT’s status and ensuring its preservation and accessibility for future generations. We are thrilled to have the backing of Paul Davies MP in our efforts to elevate the Trans Pennine Trail to National Trail status.
