State Route 161 near New Albany temporarily shut down after shooting
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – State Route 161 near New Albany was shut down for several hours early Friday morning, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation, due to a police incident.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Blendon Township Police Department are investigating a shooting, which occurred at or near SR 161, near the Sunbury Road exit at around 2:10 a.m. Police said a report of shots fired into a moving vehicle were received at 2:10 a.m.
One person was injured and taken to the hospital, though it has not been confirmed if there are other injuries or if anyone is in custody. The incident is under investigation by Blendon Township Police and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation Crime Scene Unit.
Current traffic conditions in the Columbus area
A heavy police presence had collected behind a sedan parked on the shoulder of the west Columbus highway, which closed westbound between Sunbury Road and Hamilton Road. The highway reopened at around 5:45 a.m.
The exit ramps from SR 161 to Interstate 270 remained closed in both directions for two-and-a-half additional hours, until they opened at 8:15 a.m.
