CWI announces suspension of Alzarri Joseph for two matches
Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been handed a two-match suspension by Cricket West Indies (CWI) following an on-field incident during the 3rd CG United One-Day International at the Kensington Oval.
This disciplinary action comes as part of CWI’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the sport.
The incident, which fell short of the governing body’s standards of conduct, was thoroughly reviewed with input from the Senior Men’s coaching staff.
CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, addressed the suspension and emphasized the organization’s stance on maintaining discipline.
“Alzarri’s behavior did not align with the core values that Cricket West Indies upholds,” Bascombe stated. “Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged.”
In response, Joseph issued a public apology expressing remorse for his actions. “I recognize that my passion got the best of me,” he said. “I have personally apologized to Captain Shai Hope, my teammates, and management. I also extend my sincerest apologies to the West Indies fans—I understand that even a brief lapse in judgment can have a far-reaching impact, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”
This suspension underscores CWI’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture rooted in respect, integrity, and discipline both on and off the field. (CWI)
