Ange Postecoglou provides Micky van de Ven injury return update
Ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Ipswich Town, Ange Postecoglou has now shed some light on when Micky van de Ven could return to action after his hamstring injury.
Micky van de Ven’s hamstring issues persist
Micky Van de Ven has more than his fair share of hamstring injuries over the past few years.
When he left the field in tears holding his hamstring in the first half of Tottenham‘s Carabao Cup win over Manchester City last week, many Spurs fans would have feared the worst.
The Tottenham faithful had a sigh of relief when Postecoglou confirmed a couple of days later that the Dutchman had only strained a hamstring and that the injury might only keep him out for a few weeks.
Ange Postecoglou delivers Van de Ven update
The 23-year-old has missed Tottenham‘s last two matches over Aston Villa and Galatasaray, and it has now been confirmed by Postecoglou that he will also not be involved against Ipswich. Van de Ven could also miss a number of other matches for Spurs, depending on his recovery.
The Australian explained Van de Ven would be assessed after the international break and that his return date would be dictated by the progress the defender makes over the next few weeks.
When asked about the pacy centre-back, the Tottenham boss told Football.London: “Yeah, it will be after the international break. When after, it will be dictated by his progress during that time.”
Postecoglou will not want to risk Van de Ven
There is no doubt that Van de Ven is one of Spurs’ most important players as his recovery pace allows the backline to push up another few yards forward and thus allows the Lilywhites to squeeze the opposition even higher up the pitch.
However, Postecoglou will not want to rush the former Wolfsburg man back, especially given his history of hamstring injuries. The last thing that Tottenham need is for the centre-back to aggravate the injury and remain sidelined for a couple of months.
