EDUCATION DISTRICT II SENSITISES STUDENTS ON FIRE SAFETY, RESPONSE
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service recently held a sensitization exercise for students from various schools across Education District II on fire safety, prevention and response at the Immaculate Heart Comprehensive High School, Maryland Schools Complex.
The programme, according to the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, is a Train-the-Trainers sensitization on Fire Safety themed, “Ensuring Safety, Preserving Lives and Properties”.
Adekanye said, “The programme is about the safety of lives, especially as we approach the month of December, to have a seamless end of the year and New Year celebrations. The students need to be enlightened on ways to stay safe, taking precautions and knowing how to respond to fire incidents at any point in time, at home, school and the community at large”
She further noted that in Lagos State, the Government is passionate about an all-encompassing education of the child in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu., saying “This is a new dawn, a very special one in the sense that we are concerned about the total development of our students”.
The TG/PS applauded Mr. Governor for his visionary and exemplary leadership while also commending the cooperation and commitment of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hazmat and the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun to the development of education in the State.
The Fire and Rescue Service Team, led by Mrs. Adeniji .O. Ayeni of the Public Education Unit, explained to the students the precautions to take when using fire and how to respond to fire incidents. The team also demonstrated the use of firefighting equipment.
Schools represented at the event were Mende Junior and Senior High School, Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Junior and Senior High School, Ojota Junior and Senior Secondary School, Ogudu Senior Grammar School, Anthony Village Senior High School and Ajao Estate Junior High School among others.
