Police ID mother, son charged in Opelousas homicide case
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- A 23-year-old man and his mother were arrested Thursday in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Jaleel Marquis Guidry, the Opelousas Police Department announced.
Police said Gerard Jevaris Griffin is facing one count of second-degree murder in connection with Guidry's death. Opelousas police said Griffin has been identified as the primary suspect in the case.
Griffin's mother, 49-year-old Finecia Renee Draper, faces one count of obstruction of justice.
"Authorities allege that Draper interfered with the investigation by providing false information to investigators and attempting to hide evidence related to the crime," police said in a news release.
Both were booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact the Opelousas Police Department at 337-948-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433.
