Large fire at Albany Therapeutic Riding Center
ALTAMONT. N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A large fire broke out at the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center in Altamont Thursday, evening. When NEWS10 crews arrived on the scene they spoke with neighboring residents who told them, “We started smelling smoke and we were like what’s going on? We thought something like maybe his house, something around was burning. So, we walked outside and there was nothing burning and them we ventured a little further walked around saw the smoke going into the air,” said Lawton Dennis.
Lawton and Calvin Marlow who live nearby said they were concerned for more than just their own safety. Marlow questioned, “I thought, are the people in the house, ok?”
Lawton continued, “We were just kind of worried about what was happening and if any lives were in danger.”
The fire was contained to a barn located behind house near the backside of the property. When NEWS10 crews arrived, they observed the ladder truck fully extended, spraying the blaze. Down below, firefighters were working to contain the fire.
This time of year, hay may be hard to come by but is much needed for the animals at the therapeutic center. Information is extremely limited, stay with NEWS10 as we continue to follow this developing story as we bring you the very latest in details.
