‘Hell’s Kitchen 23’ episode 7 recap: Who was eliminated in ‘Harmony in Hell’?
Tonight, on “Hell’s Kitchen”! After a special performance from the Yale Whiffenpoofs, an A capella singing group, the chefs must model their expertise and work in harmony for their next challenge, balancing an array of ingredients to create a dish that really sings! Then, in a high-stakes dinner service, one chef will be on the chopping block in the all-new “Harmony in Hell” episode of “Hell’s Kitchen: Head Chefs Only” airing Thursday, Nov. 7 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
Here’s how the teams stacked up:
Blue Team: Anthony, Brandon, Egypt, Joe, Kyle, Lulu
Red Team: Amanda, Ann Marie, Brittany, Hannah, Meghan, Whit
Gordon Ramsay eliminated Magali last week, but Meghan and Brittany are still fuming that they were nominated for elimination. They don’t feel they have the support they deserve from the Red Team. Now they’re ready to “run everybody over.”
The next morning, Gordon explains this week’s challenge is about working in perfect harmony. They’ll grab five ingredients across five rounds and then cook a dish that really sings! They snag a a cut of beef, starch, vegetable, and two wildcard ingredients. When time’s up, Gordon reveals they’ll be judged head-to-head based on which protein they selected. Here’s how the competition played out:
NY Strip: Brandon defeated Brittany 1-0
Tomahawk Steak: Meghan tied Kyle 1-1
Rib Cap: Egypt defeated Hannah 1-0
Ribeye: Ann Marie tied Joe 1-1
Filet: Amanda defeated Lulu 1-0
T-Bone: Whit defeated Anthony 1-0
With the score tied at 4, Gordon chooses Egypt’s rib cap as the best dish of the day. The Blue Team wins a pool party and spa treatments while the Red Team stays back and picks thyme leaves by hand. Hannah takes a moment to sit by herself and admits she’s struggling. Her husband took his own life a few years ago and she’s having some anxiety creep up. Being away from her family and support system has put a strain on her mental health. Hannah says it would be in her best interest to leave the competition. Chef Michelle Tribble talks her out of quitting and gives her a nice pep talk. Hannah is one of this season’s top contenders, she can’t leave now!
Later that night “Hell’s Kitchen” opens for steak night. Hannah quickly messes up the risotto, setting the Red Team back. The Blue Team is working as a unit and Egypt is finally gelling with everyone else. The Red Team continues to struggle with appetizers as Amanda sends up undercooked lobster. They quickly recover and both teams move on to entrees.
The Blue Team’s perfect dinner service goes out the window with Lulu’s cold, under-seasoned mashed potatoes. On the Red Team, things aren’t going any better. Meghan and Ann Marie both get their food returned by Gordon. After recovering, both teams deliver a wave of entrees to the diners. With two tables left for each team to serve, Gordon tells them the first team to finish wins.
After Amanda messes up the Red Team’s veal, the Blue Team ends up winning this dinner service. Now the Red Team must select to chefs to go up for elimination. After a tense debate among themselves, the Red Team votes to put Ann Marie and Meghan at risk. Both are furious that Amanda wasn’t an option since she put forward raw veal. Gordon points out that Meghan has been nominated two weeks in a row, which tells him her team doesn’t believe in her and she’s not ready to be his head chef. In closing, Gordon states, “When Meghan arrived from Hawaii, I was hopeful she would be a breath of fresh air. However, she was anything but. Aloha, Meghan.”
