“Absolutely no surprise whatsoever,” Cynthia said. Ariana added, “I said, ‘Thank God.’”
Cynthia then said, “Thank goodness, because it was not the two ladies that I was auditioning with.”
Ariana was shocked by the comment and replied, “Oh my God!”
We know about four other actresses who auditioned to play Glinda, but didn’t get the role.
Cynthia also explained why she didn’t think she’d even be considered for the role.
“Historically, Black women have never really been seen for the role. If they have, they haven’t gotten the role, and if they do, they usually are the alternate or first cover. There’s only one woman I know on record that has done it on the West End and she did it once and has never been brought back. So I just didn’t think they were looking for me,” she said.
