Drew Scott Reveals His Mom’s Extreme Plan for Getting Her Granddaughter Piper to Like Her
Grandmas are used to being beloved by their grandkids, which makes rejection — if it comes — extra hard. Drew Scott just revealed that his newborn daughter Piper, who he shares with wife Linda Phan, doesn’t exactly like his mom Joanne Scott. And she has the most extreme (and hilarious!) plan to change that.
Drew and his twin brother Jonathan Scott appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show this morning, where they dished about Drew’s 5-month-old daughter. “Piper, she’s a little sweetheart,” Drew, who is also dad to 2-year-old Parker, told host Jennifer Hudson, adding, “We have Parker and Piper, P&P Music Factory I call them.”
The Property Brothers co-star added, “She’s so different than Parker. Parker’s only two years earlier but I forgot everything I learned with him so it’s like starting over again fresh.”
Now, Piper is “starting to recognize” that Drew’s twin brother Jonathan is not her dad.
“I’m gonna spoil that girl,” Jonathan responded. “Parker, as soon as I show up, he’s so excited, he wants to dance with me and read. Now Piper has officially started to recognize me because, for the first several months, she was confused as to why Daddy shaved.”
“And got older looking and more wrinkled and more gray,” Drew joked.
“But now she smiles and gets so excited,” Jonathan added.
It’s all fun and games — at least, until Grandma comes in the picture. “Piper, no problem, the first moment we hand her over to Jonathan, smiles and everything,” Drew explained. His mom on the other hand… “The first moment handing her to my mom, cries right away,” he continued. “My mom hates it, it kills her.”
Aww, poor Grandma! But she isn’t giving up without a fight. Joanne came up with a totally extreme plan to convince Piper to like her — and it’s so dang funny.
“My mom was like, ‘Can you just print off a bunch of pictures of my face and put it around her crib,’” Drew recalled. “I’m like, ‘Do we want to scar the child? Or do we want her to like you?’”
Gosh can you imagine? She cries every time she sees her grandma, so they surround her with photos of Grandma? The intentions are good, but we can see how that would totally freak her out!
At least Piper likes her older brother. At the A Sense of Home Gala on Oct. 24, Phan told PEOPLE that the “best part” of welcoming a new baby to the family was “seeing the siblings bond.”
The Don’t Hate Your House With The Property Brothers star added, “Yeah, seeing Parker as a big brother to Piper is pretty cool. At first he was a little unsure, and then now they seem like the best of buds.”
“I mean, there are days when it’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t know, can we return her?’” Phan added with a laugh. “That’s what he thinks, but they’re going to be best friends now.”
“Yeah, in the beginning it was a little like, ‘Who is this stealing my attention?’” Drew recalled. “But now he seems to love it, and it seems like she’s sort of picking things up fast watching him. She’s only five months, but the look on her face when she just watches him is pretty sweet.”
If only they could figure out a way to get Piper to look at her grandma like that!
