Top 5 Moments of Episode 8:
1. Post-Elimination Awkwardness: Let’s address the elephant in the room, Tiyana Hallums’s elimination last week was emotional to say the least, so it felt odd to see so many unemotional contestants still in competition mode. The remaining members of the Beka tribe, all destined to be in the finale as either a jury member or a finalist, all seemed to be in good spirits with their eyes on the prize. Solomon “Sol” Yi saving Rachel LaMont remains the best move of the game so far. The alliance of these two could be powerful. Gabe Ortis really felt the pain of having his Tuku alliance lose a number, which made me wonder how far he thinks the Tuku alliance can go.
2. The Survivor Auction: The return of this iconic event thrilled the contestants. Jeff was more than prepared with up to fifteen items (with only the first 5 guaranteed), and whoever had the most money at the end the auction would lose their vote at the next tribal council. Honestly, I would have bet all my money on the macaroni and cheese like Christine “Teeny” Chirichillo did without hesitation. Rachel found a mysterious piece of paper in her fries, which always means a fun twist. We also saw the return of eating grubs, which Sam Phalen excelled at, but unfortunately he also ended up losing his vote.
3. Rachel’s Message and Voter Recruitment: The note revealed that there was a hidden immunity Idol to be found, but how would she get to it given the popularity of the shelter? The mission was successful, and her tribemates were painfully oblivious. Sierra recruited former Lavo members to target the former Tuku members, with Kyle Ostwald in her crosshairs. Genevieve Mushaluk opted to target Rachel, with the possibility of Sam as well.
4. Immunity on the Line: Nobody wanted to be the first member of the jury, so winning this challenge would ensure safety for one male and one female contestant. Honestly, it looked like a fun challenge but then again, I’m not on the beach with a limited diet. Sue Smey and Kyle emerged victorious, throwing a wrench in the Kyle plan.
5. Jury Management 101: Gabe and Caroline Vidmar quickly became the new targets, but Andy’s days as a pawn were over with a willingness to vote out Sierra or Sam at any moment. Music to the ears of many, but the talk of voting out Rachel was comical. Sam and Sierra seemed oblivious to the plot against them, which only made Sam’s “war” and “shepherd” comments even more funny. Rachel opted to play her shot in the dark, which was unsuccessful. In the end, Sam and Sierra were shocked to see their names with a tie vote, prompting a revote. Sierra became the first member of the jury. If the preview for next week is any indication, Sam is a man on a mission to be an agent of chaos and Sierra’s confessional showed that she will hold a grudge.
