Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed shortly but this is what we already know
IN May the internet was broken after Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa officially announced a successor to the Nintendo Switch.
In a tweet, Furukawa-san revealed that the console people colloquially call the Switch 2 is officially in development and will be revealed shortly.

When is the Switch 2’s reveal date?
Furukawa-san didn’t give an exact date for the Switch 2’s reveal, but he did give us a release window.
Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 would be revealed before the end of the fiscal year.
This means we’ll have our first look at the console before April 1, 2025.
When is the Switch 2’s release date?
Nintendo hasn’t even hinted at a release date for the Nintendo Switch, but we do know that the company often launches consoles shortly after their reveal.
With Nintendo revealing the console in early 2025, we expect to be able to purchase a Switch 2 around mid-2025.
Will Switch 2 have backwards compatibility?
Yes! Furukawa-san has officially announced that the Switch 2 will have full backwards compatibility with Switch games.
This means it will be able to play both digital and physical Switch games, as well as be able to use the Switch Online library.
We also know that digital purchases made on the Switch will be carried over onto the Switch 2.
What features will the Switch 2 have?
Beyond backwards compatibility, no other Switch 2 features have been officially announced.
However, we have seen a number of leaks and rumours that are worth paying attention to.
Nintendo filed a patent for a ‘dual-screen gaming device’ suspected to be the Switch 2, suggesting that the functionality will be similar to that of the Switch.
Leaks suggest that it will be slightly bigger than the original Switch and will come with new magnetic Joy-Con.
It is also believed that the Switch 2 will have two charging ports on both the top and the bottom.
How powerful will the Switch 2 be?
Technical specifications are also yet to be officially announced, but again we have some notable leaks and rumours to look at.
It is believed that it will feature an 8-inch 1080p screen, though it is unlikely to be OLED like the most recent version of the Switch.
People have suggested that it will be roughly as powerful as a PS4 Pro or an Xbox Series S.
