Leading Portland mayoral candidate Keith Wilson to hold acceptance speech
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Portland mayoral candidate Keith Wilson announced he will hold an acceptance speech early Thursday afternoon.
Although the race has not officially been called, Wilson currently leads all candidates in the Portland mayoral race with 62% of the vote (112,538 votes).
Portland City Commissioner Carmen Rubio remains in a distant second place with 38% of the vote (70,308 votes). Commissioners Rene Gonzalez (51,804 votes) and Mingus Mapps (32,551 votes) have 25% and 15% of the vote, respectively.
On Wednesday evening, Keith Wilson released a statement via X, formerly Twitter, vowing to approach the role of mayor based on the “shared values” of the community.
Earlier in the evening, the campaigns for both Rubio and Gonzalez also released statements saying they each called Wilson to congratulate him on his apparent victory in the race to become Portland’s next mayor.
If the results hold, the trucking company owner will become the first Portland mayoral candidate elected by ranked-choice voting.
His pledge to voters along the campaign trail has been that he will "end unsheltered homelessness" by the end of his first year in office.
Wilson will speak at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
