Shearer reveals how many goals he expects from Dominic Solanke at Spurs
Alan Shearer has revealed how many goals he expects Dominic Solanke to score this season after his big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Dominic Solanke has coped well with the pressure
We have seen several strikers at Spurs and other Premier League clubs struggle to cope with the pressure that comes with a big price tag.
Some might have been concerned that the same could happen to Solanke, with the striker’s every moment under the microscope and pundits sharpening their knives at the start of the season.
However, the 26-year-old has not at all looked fazed by the transfer fee or by the challenge of playing for a club of the stature of Spurs, looking completely at home in Ange Postecoglou‘s system from day one.

While Solanke has rightly been praised for his pressing and his work outside the box, the centre-forward has also shown a goalscorer’s instinct.
Both of his strikes against Aston Villa on Sunday were typical poachers’ goals, with the brace taking his tally to five goals and two assists across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).
Given the amount of chances that Tottenham create, Shearer believes that the former Cherries man should be at least scoring 20 goals this season.
The pundit said on the Rest is Football Podcast about Solanke: “I would hope and expect him to get 20 goals at least this season, even because of the way Spurs play and how many chances they create.
“I think for a forward, that’s a really good team to play in, because if he can stay fit, with the players you’ve got there with and how they whip balls into the box.
“I mean, even the first goal was a great example, with Son whipping it in and Johnson getting on the end of it. I think with the way they play, he should be at least getting 20 goals this season.”
Solanke will want to do better than last season
Solanke will fancy his chances of overtaking his tally of 21 goals for Bournemouth last season, given the amount of opportunities that Spurs create on a regular basis.
However, the reality is that even without his goals, the Englishman is worth his weight in gold to Postecoglou‘s side as he is by far the best-pressing striker in the Premier League.
He tirelessly chases down lost causes and continues to put defenders under pressure, forcing mistakes from them.
